Since 1930, the Boy Scouts of America has helped younger boys through
Cub Scouting. It is a year-round family program designed for boys who
are in 1st through 5th grade. Each Pack is a member
of a larger group called a District (ours is Voyageur Trace). Each
District is a member of larger group called a Council (ours is Des
Plaines, located in La Grange). Finally, each Council is a member of the
Boy Scouts of America (BSA for short).
Parents, leaders, and organizations work
together to achieve the purposes of Cub Scouting.
The 10 purposes of Cub Scouting are:
- Character Development
- Sportsmanship and Fitness
- Friendly Service
- Spiritual Growth
- Family Understanding
- Fun and Adventure
- Good Citizenship
- Respectful Relationships
- Preparation for Boy Scouts
- Personal Achievement
